Alexandria, VA (December 21, 2011)- More than 1470 professionals from the federal government and military, consulting and contracting firms, universities and associations gathered in Washington DC November 30 – December 1 at CEIL’s 2011 GOVgreen Conference and Exposition.

image“Our verified attendance increased 28% over 2010,” according to Ann Seltz, President, Center for Environmental Innovation and Leadership.  “The exhibit hall was a great success, growing in size by 70%.  Nearly doubling our exhibits in one year is a huge accomplishment.”

Federal attendees came from more than 50 agencies and over 60% of the attendees reporting were GS 13 and higher.  GSA and the military agencies contributed the highest number of attendees, followed by Health and Human Services, EPA, NASA and Veteran’s.

GOVgreen is unique because the event is free to federal government and military and the exhibit floor was free to all.  The 25 educational sessions qualified for Continuous Learning Points—as well as continuing education credits from both the American Institute of Architects and the US Green Building Council.

Many of the new interactive features of GOVgreen 2011 proved popular with attendees, particular the Lunch and Learn sessions on the show floor, the Ride and Drive and the Trikke demonstration area.

The second annual CEIL Awards were also presented to five winners at GOVgreen 2011.  The awards recognize military and federal, teams and programs that have demonstrated exemplary performance in integrating environmental stewardship into day-to-day activities.  Awards highlight excellence in developing and implementing innovative environmental programs to improve environmental quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, or increase use of renewable energy and bio-preferred products.  For information about the winning projects, click here.  GOVgreen 2012 is scheduled for October 31-November 1 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. For more information, visit www.GOVgreen.org.
